Hollywood is about to look very different.
Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery say their merger is expected to close October 6, subject to customary closing conditions. The combination places an enormous collection of studios, networks, streaming platforms and franchises under one corporate umbrella.
For viewers, the immediate questions are not about corporate paperwork. They are about what happens to streaming services, major networks, film labels, jobs and the hundreds of shows and movies attached to the two companies.
Supporters of the deal argue that scale will help the combined company compete against the biggest global entertainment and technology companies. Critics will focus on consolidation, possible job cuts and whether consumers ultimately face fewer choices.
Either way, the deal marks one of the biggest restructurings of the modern entertainment business.
Does a bigger Hollywood company mean stronger entertainment — or fewer choices?
