Schneider Electric is making one of the biggest industrial-software bets of the year.

The company agreed to acquire U.S. software maker PTC in an all-cash transaction valuing PTC’s shares at about $22.6 billion.

PTC builds software used in product design, manufacturing and connected industrial systems, making the deal a major play on the idea that physical infrastructure will increasingly be managed through software and data.

The purchase is another sign that the AI-era technology boom is not just about consumer apps. Some of the biggest money is moving into the software that controls real-world machines, factories and infrastructure.

THE QUESTION

Is the next AI gold rush happening in factories and infrastructure?
